Valdez
Valdez is the southern terminus of the Alaska Pipeline and is located in the South Central region of Alaska, 300 miles southeast of Anchorage and 360 miles south of Fairbanks. The crashing glaciers of Prince William Sound and towering Chugach Mountains rising from the sea make Valdez absolutely picturesque. The plentiful activities in both summer and winter, and a connection to the scenic Richardson Highway (Alaska's first highway), makes Valdez an ideal destination for travelers with vehicles. Visit valdezalaska.org for information.
Summer activities for all experience levels include hiking to cascading waterfalls, kayaking and cruising the fjords of Prince William Sound. A winter playground with snowboarding, skiing, snowmachining, snowshoeing, and ice climbing. Valdez boasts the State of Alaska's oldest fishing derby with over $80,000 in cash and prizes awarded annually. Rich in history, Valdez museums invite you to learn about the past and present, enjoy rotating exhibits and view amazing Alaska Native art.
